In case you think we gave up, or gave in on the blog. It’s just that time of the year, lots of disorientation and weird time due to holiday’s and all the commitments and changes in schedule that this time of the year entails.
We still have some drum tracks to lay down, but have moved over to bass for a little while. We spent some time figuring out how to best capture a killer bass sound, and the solution right now seems to be a 57 mic on Ed’s Ampeg cab using an old solid state Sunn)) guitar amp. We are running this also through a tape deck as we did with some of the drum tracks. We are also running the bass direct through a bass Sansamp. This is kind of our safety value in case we are not 100%, it gives us a reamp option. On the last record we played around with the Ampeg vst for bass, and while it sounds really good by itself, we had a hard time making it sit in the mix. We have some Line 6 bass modeling software that we may try this time, but our miced cabinet sounds great, so we may not need to do much.
Anyway, this is just to let you know we are still working away.
