Very good day at the Lab, we planned AND executed an extra long recording session to try to get into the meat of the drum tracks. We started with John getting "YNH" done and then like the master craftsman he is got "Bugs" done before dinner break, and in one take. After checking them off on the white board some burgers and beer followed and we went back down and got "black hole" done. It’s amazing, and we commented on this, that sometimes what seems to be the easiest thing ends up being the most difficult. We originally planned to track the "black hole" drums first because we thought it was be the simplest song to start with. It ended up taking several sessions and a bit of a re-think on our approach. Ultimately John came up with rhythm that was stripped down and quite different from the original. The word of the week is rustic, because the drums are, dare I say it? Rustic.
Next time we get the drums going for "Here Comes the Radiation" and "Diabolik."
Good times.
