Favorite (Best) CD’s of 2007
I’ve been meaning to post this up for several weeks. I planned on writing in-depth penetrating analysis of all these CD’s, but alas as usual, I didn’t have time. Considering it’s nearly March I figured I should at least just post a damn list. As always, I encourage you if you’re interested in purchasing any of these CD’s, that you do so where possible directly from the artist. Also, the usual disclaimer applies, I don’t pay attention to the actual release date of this music, my criteria is if I first heard the CD in 2007, then it’s a favourite of 2007.
So in alphabetical order, my favourite CD’s of 2007:
Blonde Redhead - 23
Calla - Strength in Numbers
Deerhoof - Friend Opportunity
Gojira - From Mars to Sirius
Grails - Burning Off Impurities
Monkey3 - 39 Laps
Oceansize - Frames
Pelican - City of Echoes
Porcupine Tree - Nil Recurring (ep)
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - In Glorious Times
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga
Young Gods - Super Ready / Fragmente
Special honourable mention for the best attempt at a sprawling conceptual CD:
Rasputina - Oh Perilous World
Feel free to add comments on CD’s you believe I neglected. Chances are I missed some good stuff in 2007, so let me know.
Or just agree, disagree or pick a fight for the hell of it.
OK. Favourites, yes. Best, nope. If there’s a better album released in 2007 than “La Cucaracha” by my heroes, WEEN, I’ll eat a bug.
Other CDs of note that I liked and which were mentioned here:
Radiohead’s “In Rainbows”: Best Stereolab record Stereolab didn’t make. I love it.
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum’s “In Glorious Times”: Saw these guys live with Steve, and they blew my mind. Seriously the best “new” band I’ve heard that would make my parents worry about me even more. Spectacular album.
Most of those other bands, I’ve never heard of, and therefore don’t count. Only “the heads” like them, and I am not allowed in their elitist music-clubs, so nuts to them all.
My word is final.

What, no Battles???
Ed, listen to Ga Ga Ga Ga… it the kind of record that makes me think of music the way I did wen I was a kid.
Battles is pretty great, I must admit. Close call that one, it almost made the list.
Ed would like Battles… reminds me of 80’s King Crimson. Make him listen!
